It is not every day that an Alderman, Patron and firm friend of our Wards’ Club becomes Lord Mayor of London – our last Lord Mayor was Sir John Chalstrey in 1995 – but all things being equal, our very own Alderman Dr. Andrew Parmley will be duly confirmed as Lord Mayor in September this year. To mark this momentous and happy event and to show our loyalty and support to Andrew and Wendy at the start of their special year your Club has decided that it will be entering a float into this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, on Saturday 12th November. To add to what will be an unforgettable day, past precedent suggests that we can be reasonably optimistic that, as the Wards’ Club and key supporter of the Lord Mayor, we will be one of the first ten floats in the procession and as such the focus of the television coverage.
I am happy to inform the Club that our participation in the procession has been confirmed, and that on your behalf a committee consisting of Deputy Bill Fraser, Jonathan Shiels Deputy Chairman (and also Best Man at Andrew and Wendy’s wedding), your Secretary, Treasurer, and Club Committee Member and past Chairman Avril Payne are working hard to organise the Club’s participation.
It would be tremendous to have a strong turn out from the Club to show the depth and warmth of the Club’s support and feelings towards Andrew and Wendy. I therefore ask you to put the date of Saturday November 12th FIRMLY in your diaries NOW as we plan a full day of activities including:

  • Club members and guests watching the river pageant before the procession starts – we hope to organise a late breakfast at the Little Ship Club.
  • Having as many as possible of the Club members, your families and friends, either riding on or accompanying the Club’s float on foot.
  • Raffling at our events through the year, four grandstand tickets by St Paul’s Cathedral, with complementary show programmes, where the lucky winners will be able to watch and cheer on the whole procession. We also plan to buy a block of tickets for the stands which will be available for members to purchase.
  • The opportunity to stay on after the procession and watch the fireworks on the river in the evening and meet up in a pub informally afterwards.
