Welcome to February and the lengthening days and that hint of spring with the snowdrops starting to bloom. There is a lot to look forward to in the coming months as I have now finalised the calendar of events for the year. Details can be found on the Club’s website at www.vintryanddowgate.org.uk/. I hope that you find plenty to interest you.
You may have heard there are mandatory General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) becoming law in the UK, effective from 25 May 2018. While it is not entirely clear that these may apply to the Club, the Committee felt it was better to err on the side of caution and assume they will. Currently your name, address, phone number and where applicable your email address are held electronically by the Secretary and Treasurer and are used by Club Officers to contact you with information relating to the Club’s activities and your membership. This data is used solely in connection with Club activities and is not shared with any other party. Going forward, in order to continue sending you such information we must seek your consent to allow the Club to store your personal data.
You can do this by either emailing me on broughtonpoggsmill@hotmail.co.uk or writing to me, saying that you wish to continue receiving mailings from the Club and I will confirm your response. I apologise if this appears overly bureaucratic but better to be safe than the Club facing a fine for breaking the law. Thank you in advance for providing your consent.
With the expenditure associated with the Club’s participation during Andrew Parmley’s mayoral year behind us, the Club’s financial position has now recovered to its previous levels. With no pressing immediate demands for any significant expenditure in sight, the Committee has decided it would be appropriate to allocate some funds to charitable causes. Members are invited to apply for a charitable donation and such applications will be considered by the Committee at its regular meetings: the next one takes place on 17 April. Guidelines for suitable applications would be charities associated with the Wards or involving young people and charitable activities being undertaken by Club members. An application form is included with the Newsletter and should be sent to the Treasurer. Please contact him if you would like further information.
Warm regards
Avril Payne, Chairman
